Role: Team Leader, Food Microbiology

Based: Hemel Hempstead

Responsibilities: Within this role, you will have responsibility for Analysts and Technicians to ensure the testing carried out is accurate, in accordance with all Quality Procedures and Principals and you will provide support to the Section Management Team.  It is essential you have prior experience within a high throughput laboratory and can work successfully in a fast-paced environment. You will be working to support the Section Managers in ensuring all UKAS related documentation is up to date along with focusing on continuous improvement and facilitating a positive culture; allowing staff the ability to put forward ideas and be innovative.

  • The candidate must be educated to a degree level with molecular biology or microbiology lab experience.
  • Exposure to culture-based methods – MALDI TOF, VIDAS or Microgen Biochemical Profiling.
  • Previous experience in a Team Leader / Management Role with a team of 5+ direct reports and can step up if needed.
  • Exceptional organisational and coaching skills whilst promoting a safe and positive working environment to facilitate the core ethos.  
  • Technically competent in food, water and environmental swab testing across a range of methods and techniques.
